Yamuna Calls is a movement that aims to mainstream the issue of revival of Yamuna in local minds through its initiatives and hopes that an active local constituency of activists, students and professionals from all the streams can be brought together on a common platform aiming the revival of the Yamuna river back into our lives. It is still not too late, but there is not much time left before the river is lost forever.

For any mass awareness campaign to be successful, active public engagement and partnership is a must. We the Delhites must feel equally responsible in cleaning the Yamuna and support the initiatives of the agencies  involved in the process.

It’s sad that once considered a pious river in Hindu Mythology today Yamuna is counted among the most polluted rivers in India. This movement is a call to remind us what this river has given to generations before us, and to allow her to nourish generations after us.

I just can’t stop myself remembering amazing play performance by a group of differently abled citizens performed for one of Clean Yamuna’s drive where The daughter of Surya – the Sun God, and the sister of Yama, the God of Death, is shown to get so fed up with the pollution that she decided to return to her father. And only after being illustratively convinced by Her brother and by the Sun God, on how Delhi will die without her, and after getting a call by the dying Delhiites, does she agree to return. I wish this could be real.

This Platform that we wish to create for all those individuals who would stand for Yamuna all those voices who will speak for Yamuna that will become a collective echo so forceful that will make even others wake up who still are indifferent .
